Important Notice (2/11/2008)
Recently, Arlington taxpayers received their February 1, 2008 real estate tax bill with an insert from my office concerning the
availability of tax exemptions and tax deferrals. Unfortunately, I had not updated the insert to reflect a change voted by Town Meeting with
respect to the property tax deferral exemption and the elderly water and sewer debt/shift tax exemption.
The insert should have provided that the income limit for the property tax deferral exemption for single or married persons, who are 65 years of age and have resided in Arlington for the last 5 years (10 years in the state) should have less than $30,000.00 of income.
The elderly water and sewer debt/shift exemption is available to those who are at least 65 years of age and, if single, have gross receipts of less than $15,000.00 and total assets which do not exceed $20,000.00 or, if married, have gross receipts of less than $18,000.00 and total assets which do not exceed $25,000.00 (total assets excluding primary residence.)
I apologize for this error. In the event you have any questions or require further information, please contact the Assessor's office at (781) 316-3052.
Very Truly Yours,
Robert Greeley
