MINUTES OF THE ARLINGTON CEMETERY COMMISSON
August 14, 2008
Present: Commissioners Bernie Smith, Michele Hassler and Acting Grounds Supervisor Jason Jones.
The meeting began at 9:10 a.m. and ended at 10:05 a.m.
1. Deeds were signed
2. Minutes from July were read and approved
3. Reviewed letter request from the O’Neil Family for placement of a bench at the grave of Margaret O’Neil. Request denied due to location of area. Letter to be sent to the family to inform them of decision.
4. Discussed the end of the summer employment help by the third week of August. Discussed what this means for personnel currently in the cemetery and those on leave.
5. Discussed the continued work being done by Kevin Duffy for the restoration and cleaning of stones in certain fields.
6. Discussed asking for any updates from Bill McCarthy about the trust fund committee- when are next meetings scheduled.
7. Eldco Landscaping doing the bushes this week. They need some assistance re: flat markers at times so no damage is done during their work.
8. Discussed keeping down flat marker decorations as fields are beginning to look too cluttered/unsightly at times.
9. Discussed how some old, dead bushes were removed from a few of the older graves. Pictures were taken before removal for documentation purposes.
10. Discussed a Memory Bench Program to buy and dedicate benches in designated spots for those who inquire about memorializing their loved one in this way.
Jason and Jean Smith will compile a list of areas they feel would benefit from this and the topic will be discussed further at the September meeting.
