Recycling News
New Cardboard Collection Container
The Arlington DPW announces a new cardboard collection container at the DPW Yard at 51 Grove Street. Cardboard needs to be flattened, but it doesn’t need to be cut. Do not bring soiled cardboard; pizza boxes should be thrown out with regular trash. Residents can continue to bring recyclable paper: newspaper, magazine, catalogs, and junk mail to the yellow and green Abitibi container at the DPW yard or to the other Abitibi bins around town. **Cardboard should not be put in the Abitibi bins**.  Both the Abitibi (paper) and cardboard collection bins are accessible to residents at anytime.

Yard Waste Collection
Yard Waste Collection will resume on a *bi-weekly* basis the week of April 14, starting with the triangle route.

Arlington residents are reminded not to put leaves into public ways such as sidewalks and streets. (See Town Bylaw Title 3, Article 1, Section 33) and asked to pick up leaves in front of their house.

Please put leaves and branches in barrels marked "yard waste" or in brown paper bags. Do not use plastic bags. They will not be picked up. Remember that branches must be less than 3 feet long and 1 inch thick and should be tied neatly into bundles up to 30" and under 50 lbs. No stumps or dirt will be collected. Do not mix trash with yard waste. Have bags or barrels at the curb by 7 a.m. on your pick up day.

Waste Management Inc, our trash contractor, also collects yard waste. Any problems with collection, call them immediately at 800-545-4560.

Arlington Supports Mass Recycles Paper! Campaign
On November 5, 2007, Arlington passed a resolution to join the Mass Recycles Paper!  Campaign. According to MassRecycle, Massachusetts residents and businesses throw away 1.5 million tons of paper every year with an estimated cost of $100 million to dispose of it. Post-consumer paper is a valuable commodity that, when recycled, can generate funds for municipalities. Arlington would like to reduce paper disposal costs and increase revenue generated by recycling paper and will continue to communicate to residents recycling activities and events. You can read the full resolution here.
