The late Marjory "Marge" Johnson served as a co-coordinator of the Arlington Food Pantry with her husband Warren for over 16 years, helping to bring food to over 340 residents in over 150 families each month. The Selectmen recognized the accomplishments of the late Marge Johnson during the November 24th Selectmen’s meeting and presented a proclamation to Marge’s husband Warren Johnson who then presented a donation to the Food Pantry in the amount of $1,000 in Marge’s honor.
By naming Friday, December 12th as Marge Johnson Community Service Day, the Board of Selectmen stated that there is no higher value than caring about others and because Marge dedicated her life to serving others, December 12th will be a day for community members to reach out in the community to make a difference by organizing food drives for the food pantry, making a donation, or by volunteering through one of Arlington’s many community agencies.
Groups interested in organizing food drives may deliver food to the food pantry on Fridays between 1-3 p.m. The food pantry is located at the Church of Our Savior, 21 Marathon Street in East Arlington. Cash donations may be sent directly to the Town of Arlington, 670 R Mass Ave, Arlington, MA 02476. If you would like your name or your group’s name added to the list community members participating in Marge Johnson Community Service Day, please send a brief description of the work being conducted to: boh@town.arlington.ma.us.
