The Affordable Housing Task Force was established by the Town Meeting in May 1999 by the following warrant article:
ARTICLE 26 ESTABLISH COMMITTEE/AFFORDABLE HOUSING
VOTED: (UNANIMOUSLY) (QUORUM PRESENT)
That the Town does hereby create an Affordable Housing Task Force, which is charged with the responsibility of studying the issue of affordable housing, and is to report to the Annual Town Meeting in 2000 on its findings and recommendations. The committee shall review the existing supply of affordable housing, techniques to create additional housing and other methods to meet the needs of cost-effective shelter in Town. Said committee shall consist of one member each from the Board of Selectmen, the Redevelopment Board, the Board of Assessors, the Arlington Housing Authority, the Fair Housing Advisory Committee, and the Housing Corporation of Arlington, as designated by said Boards and in addition, five members from the community at large shall be appointed by the Town Moderator. The Moderator is requested to consider in his
appointment individuals who are representative of the constituencies in need of affordable housing opportunities, such as low to moderate income community residents, public housing tenants, or seniors of low to moderate income. In addition, the Town Moderator is requested to consider appointing community representatives to the Task Force who have interest and/or experience in the are of open space planning, affordable housing and community development. The Selectman member shall be temporary chairman for the purpose of calling an organizational meeting of said committee.
