Alzheimer's Disease and Other Memory-Impairment Registry
Arlington Police Department

The Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, estimates there are 1,257 people in Arlington with Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders. The Arlington Police Department has set up a registry to help these people and their respective famalies. Care-givers and loved ones of the memory impaired can register a person free of charge at the Arlington Police Station, 112 Mystic St., Arlington, Mass. Registrants will be asked to fill out a simple form, which will include the following information: name, telephone, address, date of birth, height, weight, hair color, eye color, neighbor or local contact, other family contact, identifying marks, medications, additional physical problems, doctor, whether the patient wanders? If so, particular direction/place, Does the patient drive? If so, license plate number, make, model, year, particular habits, physically or verbally abusive and other helpful comments. Registrants should also bring a recent photograph of their loved one. All information on the form is strictly confidential.

Steps to take immediately when a memory-impaired person has wandered off

1. Search the vicinity. Do it immediately. Be thorough.

2. Then notify the Arlington Police at (781) 643-1212 or 9-1-1. Call us right away. Do not wait.

3. Stay by the phone. You or someone else must be available to assist in the safe return of the missing patient. Keep all other incoming and outgoing calls as brief as possible. Stay calm and focused. Call a relative or friend to join you for support.
